| The
use of essential oils - termed aromatherapy – in a massage,
bath or oil burner has been proven to have beneficial effects
in many fields of study. People commonly mistake essential
oils as only pleasant fragrances, yet they are actually complex
and powerful medicinal tools which have been used successfully
for over 6000 years. The art of aromatherapy harnesses the
pure essences of aromatic plants, flowers and resins for their
healing, cleansing, preservative and mood-enhancing properties.

There
are many, many different essential oils, classified according to
their various properties. Some of the more familiar ones might be
lavender, which many use as a sleeping aid or tea tree, which is
an anti-bacterial oil used in hospitals. Essential oils pop up everywhere
in our everyday life, as ingredients for beauty products, cleaning
agents and pharmaceutical drugs.
Aromatherapy
massage is the perfect way to experience the wonders of essential
oils and can help with many different problems, both physical and
psychological. Clients come for aromatherapy massage for many different
reasons, ranging from painful muscles through to asthma and anxiety,
to mention but a few.
What
to expect
: Before an aromatherapy treatment, I will take a full consultation
including your medical history. This helps me to build up a clear
picture of your needs and what oils are going to be most beneficial.
I will then mix up a blend of 2-3 essential oils in a base oil which
I will use to massage onto the skin. You are left to get undressed
and settled under towels on the massage couch. Areas of the body
are uncovered individually as they are massaged and you are kept
warm and modest at all times. After the treatment, I will talk through
some aftercare advice to enable you to get the most out of your
treatment.
