Swedish
massage is arguably the most well-known European style of massage.
Using oil on the skin, a therapist massages the whole body using
their hands, forearms or elbows to manipulate the superficial layers
of the muscles to improve mental and physical health, induce relaxation
and stimulate the circulation of blood through the body.

There
are five different techniques used to relieve muscle tension;
effleurage (stroking), petrissage (kneading), friction, tapotement
(tapping), and vibration. Overall, the sensation is of a deep,
healing massage that leaves you feeling looser and more relaxed.
The
benefits of Swedish massage include an increased ability in
the body to remove toxins and deliver nutrients to tissue
and cells more efficiently. The body is able to recover from
strains and trauma more quickly and there can be an increased
range of movement. On a psychological level, people report
deep relaxation, less stress and feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

What
to expect : Before a Swedish massage treatment,
I will sit down with you and take a full consultation, which includes
your medical history. This enables me to cater the treatment to
your needs. I then leave the room to allow you to get undressed
and lie down comfortably under the towels on the couch. I use oils
to do the massage, uncovering each part of the body individually
so that you are kept warm and modest throughout. After the treatment,
I will talk through some aftercare advice to enable you to get the
most from your treatment.
